Personal Graphic Design Statement
I use a very personal approach to graphic design, which reflects my inner feelings as well as my artistic vision. Graphic design allows me to channel my creativity and energetic nature into cohesive, lively compositions. While I enjoy contemporary design, my style shifts depending on my goals. Sometimes I'll lean toward minimalism for a sleek, professional look and other times I embrace playfulness and vibrancy to engage the audience. My personality shines through in Floral and Fruity, a brand I created by designing packaging for hand lotions, soap bars, and perfumes. I wanted the brand to be as vibrant as my personality, incorporating bold colors, floral patterns, and playful designs to create an inviting aesthetic.
I believe strong design is not just about aesthetics but about how every element works together to form a unified and meaningful piece of work. I use negative space and a structured hierarchy to make sure important information stands out, and I concentrate on balance, contrast, and repetition to ensure it’s cohesive. Repetition strengthens consistency, while contrast helps direct the eye and make key features easier to distinguish. A great example of this is my Inti Raymi festival poster, where I refined the sizing, colors, and patterns to reflect the vibrancy of the event while keeping the layout structured and easy to navigate. Sometimes simple trial & error leads me to improve my designs.
Originality to me, means creating designs that are compelling, unique, and meaningful. To make every piece distinctive, I experiment with different fonts, shapes, patterns, and visuals. My creative choices are influenced by my personal experiences, culture, and the various forms of media that I'm exposed to. Whether I'm creating business cards, movie posters, or event tickets, I push myself to think outside the box. For example, when I created my movie posters, I incorporated symbols and themes from the films that visually connect with the story. Ultimately, my goal as a designer is to produce visually striking and purposeful work that resonates with audiences and leaves a lasting impression.
